Orange Is the New Black New Season Reviews
One of Netflix's first great shows
Alert: Spoilers
Orange is the New Black was 1 of the first Netflix original shows. Luckily, it was really great with keen storylines. When the show first came out, it was groundbreaking. It had a very diverse cast, all of which had slap-up grapheme arcs. Even the guards had practiced stories. I loved the flashbacks, which gave context to dissimilar stories. The first half-dozen seasons were just amazing. Season 7 I think leaned a little likewise heavy on the social issues which detracted from the overall story. I also really disliked Piper and Alex in the final few seasons. Overall cracking testify and one of Netflix'south first great shows.

Not as funny as it used to be
Warning: Spoilers
Season 7 is going a tad scrap overboard trying to hit all the political hot button bug. I'm all for trying to get the message out merely every storyline deals with an unfortunate issue and it's kinda depressing. > Yous've got female person genital mutilation, unlawful deportation, poor treatment by ice agents to immigrants being held, the "me too" movement both the cause and the effect and the validity on both sides of the story. The illegal immigrant female parent getting her children taken abroad, etc. > I still like the show but it has completely changed information technology doesn't seem like a piece of work of fiction anymore. Its heavy and feels more like a platform for political sensation.

Great...for five seasons. Watching Season 6 was a chore and Flavour 7 was an ordeal.
(Updated after Season vii)
The story of your average early-30s female yuppie who gets sent to prison house for 15 months for a crime she committed x years before. Season ane Episode 1 shows her checking into the prison house, and the residue is what goes on inside, plus the effects of her incarceration on her friends and family.
Initially I thought it was going to a female version of Oz, but it is far better than that. Multi-dimensional: funny, sensitive and sometimes night. There is heaps of depth to the characters. Clever use of pre-prison flashbacks to show what motivates characters in sure situations, and how they got to be in jail. Very sensitively done, information technology often shows how their personalities were shaped.
This also serves to evidence that y'all can't merely gauge people by their current actions - everyone has heaps of baggage.
Superb performances from a spot-on bandage.
Then different to what I expected, and very pleasantly then.
Season 4 continues the good work and was the usual mix of powerful drama and biting one-act. Maybe a scrap darker and deeper than previous seasons due to roofing problems of insanity, depression, guard brutality and prisoners' lives one time they go out of prison house. Some characters who didn't get much focus in previous seasons go more than of the limelight, while others get less. Ane of the casualties is Pennsatucky / Doggett (Taryn Manning), which is a shame equally she is one of my favourites - multi-layered and funny. On the plus side, Lolly (Lori Petty) gets much more screen time and she is great: funny and sad, all at the aforementioned time.
The last two episodes of Season 4 are incredibly powerful and moving.
Season 5 picks upwards where S4 left off and shows that the writers had certainly not run out of ideas. At a indicate when nigh series start to experience jaded, Orange is the New Black was equally strong and fresh equally e'er.
However, Season 5 does mark a turning bespeak, equally the show moves from existence predominantly character-based to more than plot-based. This is a negative thing, as it was the characters and their stories that make the testify so engaging.
Flavor half dozen is where the novelty starts to wearable off and the writing starts to show signs of weakness. The setting and situation were new: the Max side of the prison, complete with the more limited freedom it presents, plus grittier, more dangerous characters. This made for some interesting possibilities and the writers used these fairly well.
However, the character date, ordinarily OITNB's strongest feature, is at present largely missing. Tasha Jefferson is the only grapheme whose story is worth post-obit, and this gets drawn out to the nth caste. Piper Chapman, being irritating (though I remember this was more due to Taylor Schilling's performance than anything else), was never worth supporting and this flavor is no exception. She does, however, provide the most emotional moment of the season.
The lack of engagement in the season is largely due to some previously-likeable/interesting characters being made into irritating characters. The over-the-topness of Red and Lorna'due south dialogue and general drama constantly made me tune out whenever they appeared.
There are a host of new characters but none are worth supporting. Their introduction also dilutes the impact of the characters and stories you do care about.
Overall Season 6 was watchable simply it did feel like a task at times.
The down trajectory continues in the final season, Flavor 7. By now information technology is all plot-based and the engagement levels are close to zero. The plots themselves feel like retreads of old ones: there's very piddling new under the sun. The transformation of previously-likeable characters into irritating characters continues. Lorna is particularly annoying.
There was quite a bit of potential though: several of the ex-inmates are now on the outside, so you get to come across how the US deals with ex-cons. This was reasonably interesting, as you see how badly ex-cons are treated by the organisation and how the odds are stacked in favour of them going back to jail. Unfortunately, the central graphic symbol in this is Piper, and she's irritating, as ever.
The other area that had potential was the sub-plot involving deportees and Water ice, as this shows how the US treats illegal immigrants (brusk respond: not very well). Unfortunately, the writers ruin this by massively overegging the pudding: extreme cases, out-of-the-blueish soapbox speeches and political finger-pointing. Rather than address the problems with sensitivity and subtlety, they're rammed downwards your throat. So preachy.
Season vii was quite an ordeal to get through. I only put myself through information technology to see the series through to the end. Fifty-fifty and so the writers don't make information technology easy: 13 episodes with a i.5-hour last episode! In total that'south near fourteen hours of my life wasted.

From groundbreaking to a complete mess
Flavor 5 is the perfect instance of when the prove needs to be over. First 2 seasons were amazing, then we saw a gradual decline in adept storytelling. And season 5 has no common thread, all the old characters are not even given a take chances to smooth. The show seems very disconnected, besides many ideas never course into annihilation interesting. Please let it be the last season because it'south borderline embarrassing. Pass the give-and-take to American Horror Story, and the new Twin Peaks.

Starts out great, ends up awful.
First couple season were actually amazing, but like a lot of shows, this one overstays its welcome and ends up becoming breathless garbage. Tin can't say I recommend it.

Pretty Good!
Orangish is the New Black is equally as proficient equally everyone says and is definitely worth watching. I was entertained throughout the unabridged series. Having said that, I think Wentworth is the better show near a women's prison. If you lot haven't seen this yet practice yourself a favor and go check information technology out!

This has rave reviews and I'grand really not sure why.
Alert: Spoilers
is information technology because of the occasional lesbian sex shown in a very coy fashion ? or is it the odd flashing of a stray chest ?
This is not Oz in a adult female'south prison. This is a watered down prison house soap for people that want to pat themselves on the back for watching something where the give-and-take cwnt is mentioned occasionally and could been seen as 'close to the border'.
The characterisation and acting is actually fairly practiced and the lead graphic symbol is likable.
The problem is the saturated fat instead of substance. The fact that yous have to disengage encephalon too oft to picket it. The proposition that nigh all prison inmates are mentally challenged simply only i is mentally ill and where the racial stereotypes are laughable.
The blackness population are a cross between whores and comic children'south toys where the black doll has floppy hair and does high fives repeatedly. Their speech and patois is a racial parody for American white eye course to wait down on. At that place isn't one black person with a encephalon or a motivation apart from deep fried chicken and an impulse to trip the light fantastic toe at the drop of a hat.
A good example being the storyline of the mobile telephone hidden in a wall. Information technology's being used for entertaining an inmates boyfriend past her sending him 'shocking' pictures of her punani. Just one small problem... how does she charge information technology ?
so it'south not Oz, it's not close to Oz more's the pity.

Bear witness went down in flames after season 3
Some other show that was dragged out for too long. Really the showtime two flavor were interesting and fun, and so it steamrolled itself to a terrible catastrophe. Past the time it ended, the simply character I all the same cared well-nigh was Tasty, who got totally screwed by her friend, who should have told the truth. Piper and Alex, those whiny punks, could have both gotten killed (as characters) and I wouldn't take cared. Simply some other show that didn't know when to quit.

To Start Out With Anyhow, Very Overrated
Warning: Spoilers
I am chiming in nigh this show because I am surprised at how positive the reviews are trending for it. Later on reading positive buzz over the past several months, I have finally had the opportunity to watch Orange is the New Black. And I am very, very unimpressed.
At present, every bit a disclaimer, I've but watched the offset couple of episodes. So I cannot comment on the rest of the first season. Simply from what I did see, my observations are as follows:
The Good - The premise is undeniably compelling, fifty-fifty if it is for salacious reasons. The title is cool and clever. Laura Prepon. A different role for Kate "Captain Janeway" Mulgrew. It's cool to support Netflix's pioneering spirit.
The Bad - The writing. The lead graphic symbol and her fiancé. (Those are ii HUGE negatives, though.)
I was expecting an intelligent drama. Perhaps my expectations were off, or unreasonable. Is this show a black comedy? Information technology seems like it at times, simply the "humor" is very lowest-common denominator, often employing very cheap-feeling shock value. Others have suggested that this bear witness gets away from clichés...I don't know, maybe in some isolated cases, just on the whole it strikes me as extremely clichéd.
The lead graphic symbol is utterly unconvincing, annoying, and uninteresting to me. In the bad sort of fashion, the not-worth-watching another episode sort of style. Perhaps I am being as well hasty in my judgment? Overall, I can see why this show draws viewers. It is compulsively watchable in a certain way. Only not the way that deserves high quality ratings, in my stance.
I approached Orange is the New Blackness with an open mind, by the way. I simply experience that it is not very good. Certainly non to be compared with the best shows around. Are we watching the aforementioned show here? I applaud Netflix for the effort, but would suggest that there is huge room for improvement, based on what I take seen.

A Complete Waste of Fourth dimension
dk777 25 February 2021
Another evidence that started out fun and interesting only to be ruined by bad writing in the terminate.
A show that had potential, fun and interesting characters, so it'due south a real shame it didn't have improve writers.
The cast is good and the concept is interesting, but information technology'southward just not enough and very apace the prove becomes wearisome and boring. With such an interesting plot information technology could accept been really cracking.
An interesting concept, the show could have been great, but the writers destroyed it.
I'chiliad really deplorable for the time I lost watching this series, it became so bad and boring that I couldn't watch it to the end. The actors are not bad, but they are not enough to save this catastrophe.
A consummate waste material of time.

This Impressive Drama Features An Extraordinary Cast
Warning: Spoilers
Orangish is the New Blackness is beingness released on Netflix. I am providing my review after watching the first four episodes.
Considering most of the show takes identify inside a women'due south prison, this show features an huge female person bandage, and information technology's a wonderful cast. Taylor Schilling plays the lead, Piper Chapman, who has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for her part in drug smuggling ten years earlier. Taylor also played the iconic role of Dagny Taggart in Atlas Shrugged. Laura Prepon (That Seventies Evidence) plays Alex, Piper's ex-girlfriend. Kate Mullgrew plays Carmine, a Russian émigré who runs the prison house kitchen. Natasha Lyonne plays Nicky a savvy girl who gets some of the best lines. Yael Stone, who plays Lorna, is a striking presence on screen. There are so many stiff actresses in this product that I tin can't list them all.
Jason Biggs plays Piper's fiancé who must wait for her release to restart their life together.
Orangish is the New Black is a drama with stiff comedic undertones. The New York prison where the women are incarcerated has an atmosphere that might best be described as sterile, scary and corrupt. As the women bargain with the inhumanities of prison life, some seek small daily pleasures, a few concur onto their hopes for a better life later prison, and some are hopeless victims of the institution. Most of the latter were victims in the exterior world as well.
Equally the women are introduced to us, at that place are flashbacks detailing their histories and the circumstances that sent them to prison. Their stories are humanizing. The prison employees also live inside the prison civilization where rules are paramount. They also are imprisoned during their work hours and must acquire to cope with an insensitive environment that is also political.
Piper has to learn the rules and the other harsh realities from the commencement moment she enters Litchfield Prison. Then she has to acquire how to cope, making mistakes along the style. Before she was bars, she lived a life at the top of Maslow'due south Hierarchy of Needs; in prison house, the near basic needs cannot be taken for granted. Fifty-fifty the hugs are rationed during visits with family and friends.
As you watch, I think you lot will find that your heart hurts for these women. There are then many themes available to the writers, but central is the fleeting nature of hope.
Tin love flourish in prison? I call up nosotros will find out.
I rate this testify 9/10.

First season was dandy, it keeps getting worse at present
The first flavor of this show was really good! The second season was okay, the third flavour was just watchable. Season 4 I had to forcefulness myself through the pain of watching until the terminate and after that I completely gave upwardly, no interest left to watch the new seasons. This could accept been a good two to three season show, now they're merely trying to drag it out for profits just I'd exist surprised if this show has even one-half the following it did back when it started. My advice is watch the first season and stop there. Trust me, information technology doesn't get whatsoever better.

Shock factors should never be deliberate
Warning: Spoilers
The 1 star is for some of the characters in this, information technology is no doubt full of talented actors and actresses but I find a lot of the sex, nudity in this series is put in there deliberately for shock factor and it overtakes from any substantial story line. Unlike Breaking Bad, this is non a dark one-act that is effective in combining profound serious issues with humour. It fails at this remarkably in my opinion. I have watched other incredible films that revolve or take a central focal point around homosexuality - like Brokeback Mountain and Monster - these films do non come up across every bit trying likewise hard to be eclectic because at that place'south a holistic component to the entire story and its depth. They simply just tell the story and the story stands for itself. I guess what I mean is that it is pretty obvious to a viewer when nudity and sex scenes (be they same sexual activity or non) are trying besides hard to be shocking or eclectic to increase viewer ship and it gets in the way of the story. It's only trying to be too funny, too different and too deliberate with trying to appeal to men's girl on daughter fantasies that the story loses substance.

Excellente !!
Whoah!
What a rollercoaster seven seasons have been! Never have I been so invested in characters on tv set!
Yes it started out as a one-woman prove but I think the creators rightly enlarged the scope of OITNB. Soooo many characters yet you knew them all in such item. Surely even bigger than a soap opera?
Cried a few times too., not actually.

Season 3 is really boring
This series has lost its way. It's style too focused on the relationship between Alex and Piper (a real snooze fest) and not focused enough on what makes these characters interesting. There is no spark here anymore. What made seasons one and ii interesting just isn't at that place anymore. This story is played out. Time for it to go! And Pennsatucky! Really? Do new teeth completely transform a person? I recollect non. Past far the most interesting graphic symbol on the show, Red, has been reduced to a full stereotype - of the aging tough woman with a heart of gold. She was so interesting before and now she is simply as boring equally all of the other characters. Most boring of all is Alex. She was edgy in seasons 1 and 2 and now she is just annoying - non interesting at all. Did they change writers or producers or did they just have one good idea and they are stringing it out equally long as possible? I will say that Crazy Optics continues to exist the near fun character to sentinel - played to perfection!

It's like the first few seasons of Weeds
Information technology brings dorsum memories of Weeds. You know in its glory days. The first few seasons before information technology went off the runway. That's what "Orange Is the New Black" is like. Equal parts funny and sad. A mix of true pathos and yet true honesty and dazzler coming from the strangest places. Be warned however in that location is enough of lesbian sex and if the "F" discussion makes your ears bleed it is probably a good idea to turn back now...This isn't OZ but this also isn't Disney. This is a true winner from Netflix and tells an interesting story not simply from the main character'southward perspective but from the other inmates too. It would have been ho-hum to see things from only her point of view. Like Nancy Botwin on Weeds, onetime Piper Chapman is portrayed in not so practiced a light because she can be the villain in someone else's story.

Fantastic for most of the way
I relish and then many of the characters and everything they go through! I'one thousand simply now seeing the last flavor and and so far pretty good although I think the get-go 5 seasons were the best. Lots of wild personalities, intense episodes, satisfying wins, and great soundtrack! OITNB is a phenomenal perspective of what it'south like for women prisoners in many aspects. Lastly I beloved the excitement I feel from the offset credits, nice mix of jolly and nighttime.

No more than than daily soap
Well the concept of women prison is something new and I started watching information technology with blank mind. Start is all in all mildly interesting but every bit the story progresses there is not much to expect. The leading character, Taylor faces multiple dilemmas, most interesting of which is about her sexual orientation. She used to be gay in past but she has a boyfriend now..and and so she bumps into her old girlfriend in prison house.so that is the most exciting function. But wait there is mild one-act too..she comes across a stalker whose weird acting is to be appreciated the most. The entire flavour is full of modest time accidents and fuss that Taylor comes across. Orange is the new black is not a thriller equally a prison based serial should be only its close to chick moving picture. It covers every theme partly and then, it is no more than a regular time pass daily lather.

1 - five
Alarm: Spoilers
What started out as a number one has been downsized to a number 5 season 4.. Have not seen the whole season as nonetheless, but the first four episodes are not nearly as good equally past seasons, hence the rating to number five One major plot pigsty (spoiler alert) is : Doesn't anyone miss the guard who was murdered??? Thus far, NOTHING. Doesn't anyone on the staff or his individual life wonder what happened to him? What most his paycheck. What does anyone think when he but 'vanishes' and doesn't even choice up his bank check!!!! Unless this is addressed later on in the season, I will give this an fifty-fifty lower rating equally the season progresses... Some of the backstories are not very interesting and just take up room as what's going on inside the prison. Wish the writers, producers or fifty-fifty some cast members would pick up on this and particularly WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT Hitting-MAN Guard!!!!!! Nuff' said except some of the acting is very skilful to poor....volition non name names!!!

Quickly Degrading
Warning: Spoilers
Flavour ane was a refreshing experience. An innocent educated adult female sentenced to jail makes up for a great story to tell. The plot is centered around Piper's troubles and tribulations in dealing with her new life equally an inmate, it made me curious plenty to watch the whole season, and I liked it. Flavour 1 turned out to exist very successful, the dramatic/comic entertainment value was undeniable.
Season 2.
Eager to greenbacks in in their success, the producers must have felt the demand to extend the life of the series. Their arroyo is to develop circumstantial characters as part of the main plot. Risky business!
So, we are no longer following Piper, simply a bunch of other uninteresting characters that completely alter the entertaining tempo of season one. The intent is to dull downwardly the show in order to greenbacks in their success. The trouble is that they take transformed an interesting story into an inmates soap opera. They attempt to provide continuity by maintaining a like comical approach to rough situations, and past the already established sexual tensions, mainly on the lesbian side.
I watched season 1 in 2 days, but I can't picket back to back season 2 episodes, I have lost a lot of interest as I feel manipulated by a degrading plot that no longer appeals to me at any level. I am half way into season 2, and I doubtfulness that I will finish it.

Hilarious and dark.
This prove is a seriously funny drama.
If you like 'Weeds', 'Breaking Bad' or prefer your humour on the darker side, then give information technology a go... you will not be disappointed.
Very few people create characters similar Jenji Kohan... and it is the characters that brand this show. Like 'Weeds', 'Orange' is fresh and original, and like 'Weeds' the lead character is tragically flawed and hilariously funny.
Well done to Netflix on their latest product... 'Hemlock Grove' is just weird, 'Business firm of Cards' was hit and miss... merely information technology looks like the third time is a charm. Bravo.
(FYI: humor is how nosotros Brits spell humor). :-)

Besides many stereotypes
Warning: Spoilers
This could have been a really good bear witness if the writers had actually taken the time to do some enquiry on blacks and latinos, instead of relying on stereotypes that are found on the internet. I realize that when information technology comes to the white inmates on the show there's a adept diverseness of characters. You accept the meth addicts, and the hillbilly and the trailer trash, and the naïve blond haired bluish eyed princess, oh and at that place'south even a nun. OK that's great, at that place'southward plenty of diversity there.
Unfortunately the black cast is comprised of nothing just loud, ghetto, uneducated and obese women. The only two who seem normal are a transsexual and an emotional disturbed inmate dubbed crazy eyes, because in the eyes of the creators of the testify a black woman must exist a freak in order for her to possess some intelligence. The latina characters didn't turn out any meliorate. Their characters were all written to be women with multiple children by multiple men, oh aye and big surprise in that location is a mother and daughter in prison house together. So freaking stereotypical that it's embarrassing. This evidence could take been so much amend

All that hype? For this?!?!
Orangish is the New Black is not the worst testify you could ever subject yourself to, nonetheless, it is far from the masterpiece the critics are making information technology out to be. Orange is the New Blackness follows Piper as she navigates life from behind bars. The premise is really cool and Jenji Kohan is a great writer, then I figured why not? Well, heres why not: the story is unnecessarily convoluted. Ane episode jumps from 1 perspective to the adjacent without every really developing a clear cut thought for what they're trying to testify us. The first flavor, however, was more focused on Piper'southward struggle behind bars and gave a scrap away about those around her. That would be fine for one, MAYBE two episodes but a WHOLE SERIES?? Season ii was very sub-par to the kickoff. Inside the offset iii episodes, Piper is seen a handful of times and we start to shift our focus to other characters such every bit Lori Petty. Don't misunderstand me, this is not horrible television. In fact, it is very entertaining simply it, in no fashion, shape or form is master grade writing or characters. Quite honestly, if Netflix did not produce this show, I couldn't see it doing well on any network as with most Netflix originals that are non House of Cards. This is but a stretched out mini-series that hasn't gotten thinned out nevertheless. At present, I know there are a ton of fans out at that place that love this show and that is keen but I'm just not one of them. Like Jenji Kohen's other prove Weeds, after season 3, this will bound the proverbial shark.

The Memoir of Piper Kerman
Alarm: Spoilers
Having watched 13 episodes of Season 1, I institute this to be a wonderful story about one woman's experience serving a xv month sentence in a minimum security women'south prison. Based on the memoir of executive consultant, Piper Kerman, this is a story well-nigh Piper, a young woman raised in a white, upper middle class family, who completed her education at college, and while looking for a job as a waitress at a local bar, meets and begins a human relationship with Alex, played by the statuesque and pretty Laura Prepon. The ii young women alive an adventurous and romantic life for several years earth trotting and drug trafficking for an international drug cartel until they eventually function ways. Then, later 10 years, Piper is arrested, tried, and found guilty of being an accomplice to drug trafficking and money laundering, right when she's settling down with her boyfriend, Larry, played past Jason Biggs. So, Larry drives his beloved Piper to prison house where Piper surrenders herself to begin her xv month sentence, with the intention of serving her fourth dimension, and so marrying her fiancé, Larry. But, Piper is a fish out of water in an environment that seeks to teach the hard lesson of conformity. The bandage is amazing, and the storyline well written, with good character development through flashbacks. The guards and prison house administration are portrayed as corrupt and exploitative in a conceivable manner. The prisoners are multi-dimensional, at times sympathetic, with loyalties that alter depending on what is at risk at that moment in time as tribal principles prevail. This story is near adaptation and survival equally much every bit it is near finding honey in all the wrong places. And this really happened to someone. I would highly recommend this enjoyable series, and expect forward to Season two.
